Many people across Pakistan and the world are celebrating their Independence Day today.

It is now 72 years since the country gained sovereignty after breaking away from the rule of the British Raj.

The British Crown ruled large parts of India and the surrounding countries

Pakistan has its celebrations the day before India’s Independence Day, which takes place on 15 August each year.

The day is also known as Yom-eIstiqlal, and the celebrations begin at midnight and the day includes cultural events and parades throughout the cities.

Public ceremonies are also held at the tombs of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muhammad Iqbal, who were both leaders who helped inspire the independence movement in the country.
